FAQ

How to play Jass

The primary objective of Jass is to score points by winning tricks with high-value cards.
Jass is played with a 36-card deck, derived from a standard 52-card deck by removing the 2s through 5s. The rules go as follows:
  • Each player is dealt nine cards in sets of three
  • Players decide the trump suit through bidding or pre-set rules. The trump suit has special privileges and higher value in tricks
  • The player to the dealer's left leads the first trick by playing any card. Each player, in turn, must follow suit if possible. If they cannot follow suit, they may play a trump card or any other card. The highest card in the suit led wins the trick, unless a trump card is played, in which case the highest trump wins
  • The team with the highest score at the end of the game wins. Games are often played to 2500 points or a pre-determined number of rounds
Points are scored based on the value of the cards in tricks won. Jass uses a specific point system
  • Ace: 11 points
  • Ten: 10 points
  • King: 4 points
  • Queen: 3 points
  • Jack: 2 points
  • 9, 8, 7, 6: 0 points (except the Nine of trumps, which is worth 14 points)

How to play Piquet

The main objective of Piquet is to score points by winning tricks and declaring combinations of cards. Piquet is played with a 32-card deck, derived from a standard 52-card deck by removing the 2s through 6s. The game is played in six deals, and the player with the highest score at the end of these deals wins. The rules go as follows:
  • The dealer is chosen by cutting the deck, and the roles alternate after each hand. Each player is dealt 12 cards, leaving an 8-card talon
  • Players can discard and replace a certain number of cards from the talon. The non-dealer (eldest hand) can discard and draw up to 5 cards, while the dealer can draw from the remaining talon cards
  • After drawing new cards, players declare combinations. The non-dealer declares first, followed by the dealer. Points are scored based on the value and number of the combinations declared
  • The non-dealer leads the first trick by playing any card. The opponent must follow suit if possible. If they cannot follow suit, they can play any card. The highest card of the suit led wins the trick, and the winner of the trick leads the next one
  • The non-dealer leads the first trick by playing any card. The opponent must follow suit if possible. If they cannot follow suit, they can play any card. The highest card of the suit led wins the trick, and the winner of the trick leads the next one
  • Points are scored for declared combinations and for winning tricks
